9% growth in Dubai Airport Traffic

Dubai International Airport has announced steady growth in passenger and cargo traffic in 2008. The airport registered
- Increase of 9.01 percent in passenger traffic.
- Increase of 9.38 percent in freight.
Dubai International has uphold its position as the aviation and cargo centre of the Middle East and the world’s promising aviation center with a stable increase in passenger and cargo traffic in 2008 and the successful opening of Terminal 3, the world’s largest terminal despite a slowdown in world’s aviation sector due to global economic downturn and the record high prices of oil.
The airport handled a throughput of more than 37 million passengers and 1,824,991 tons of cargo in 2008 as against 34,348,110 passengers and 1,668,505 tons of freight in 2007. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) and chairman of Dubai Airports, said
The growth was impressive, especially considering the global economic downturn and the record high price of oil during the summer of 2008.
Commenting on the reorganization of Dubai Airports, he added that:
It is evident now, in our growth and the world acknowledged success of Terminal 3s launch that the restructuring was done right. It was a transformed Dubai Airports that spearhead the opening of Terminal 3 on 14th October.
