When most of the companies cut their jobs to reduce their operation cost and keep pace with world economic crises; International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), the world’s largest computer and technology Services Company, is going to open a new computer support center in Iowa, USA. For this center they plan to create more than 1,300 new jobs and want to define a trend of widespread corporate layoffs. The Dubuque facility in a 10-story office building one time occupied by now-defunct retailer Roshek’s Department Store and that will make new jobs for high-tech personnel.
Last Wednesday, IBM authority said employees will provide tight security services and remote support to IBM clientele, helping to maintain software and computers systems primarily located in the USA. IBM, nicknamed “Big Blue”, said it plans to appoint several hundred workers in the facility by the end of current year. They hope following renovations and decoration to the top eight floors of the edifice (built in the 1930s) that it will occupy to create it more energy efficient.
IBM expects by the end of 2010, as many as 1,300 IBM workers will work in the building. On the other hand, on last Tuesday, IBM announced plans to work jointly with Michigan State University, USA to build a modern software development center in East Lansing, Michigan. And this center will create more than 1,500 jobs over the next five years. Meanwhile, the plans of IBM make new life in US job market. Many think that it is good news for world business.
